52 Weeks of Mail: Week 28 | 60th *Diamond* Wedding Anniversary Invitation

As I mentioned earlier in the week, this week's mail is extra special.  My grandparents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in August and I had the honor to design an invitation for them.  My family decided to surprise them by mailing an invitation.  You may have seen this sneak peak over on Instagram.  Well, that was a sneak peak of their surprise invitation.  Here's what I crafted up for them.

The 60th anniversary is often called the "Diamond Anniversary", so I let those sparkly gems be my inspiration to the design.  I wanted an invitation that was simple, classy and a little flashy; just like my Grandparents.  :)  Gold, traditional font paired with black, simple serif font.  The invite is bordered with classy swirls, a pear-shaped faux diamond at the top and two, smaller round stones at each side of the bottom.

Because the pear-shaped faux diamond is very much 3D, it required a small box when shipping.  I wanted the invitation to not only be a surprise, but be fun to open.  In doing so, I layered kraft, crinkle paper to the bottom of the box ( small flat rate USPS box). I used scrapbook paper I had on  hand to adhere to the top, inside flap.  I glued a few large and small faux diamonds to the scrapbook paper.  Next, I used a kraft paper envelope and lace to wrap up the invite.  I set the kraft paper envelope on the crinkle paper and sealed up the box.

Once I mailed their surprise package, I waited impatiently for the package to arrive.  I also mailed the same invitation to my family, but used a smaller rhinestone on the top so they were envelope-friendly (see photo below).  My Aunt was visiting when the package arrived at my Grandparent's home so she got to see their reaction when opening.  She assured me it was all happiness, smiles and a few tears.  I am looking forward to celebrating this special milestone in a few short weeks.  Have you recently celebrated a 60th anniversary or other big milestone?  How did you celebrate?
