52 Weeks of Mail: Week 16 Earth Day Inspired Package

For Week 16, I decided to mail some goodies in a plastic water bottle.  Every tried this before? Since Earth Day is April 22nd, I thought it would be a little tribute to reusing something that usually ends up in my recycling bin. Or the waste.  *gasp!*  You recycle all your water bottles, don't you?  I hope you're shaking your head yes.  I'll stop jabbering and get to the mail details.

First, I found these nifty triangular shaped Crayons at the store.  Is it a coinsidence they are shaped like the recycling symbol?  Things just work out like that sometimes. ;)  I wanted to keep the crayons for myself, but thought my little friends might enjoy them more (no coloring on the walls, kids!)

To go along with the crayons, I designed some artwork with their names and kid drawing inspired dingbats.  Yes, I said dingbats.  Dingbats are like a font, but in the shape of artwork. Each letter is a little shape, picture, swirl, etc.  Pretty fun, right?  The dingbats are compliments of Manfred Klein and you get the Kids Drawing font here.  The font used for "gavin" is Clementine Sketch, compliments of Teegan White and you can download here.  Both are 100% free.  Happy dance.

I printed out the coloring sheets, added a little note and rolled up tightly.  Use twine to keep the paper rolled tightly (be sure it fits in the opening of the bottle. Also leave a lot of extra twine at the end of of your knot so the paper can be pulled out of the bottle. I put the crayons in first and added the rolled paper last.  The excess twine was wrapped around the top of the bottle and twisted on the top to hold in place.  The water bottle I used worked out really well.  It is the Voss water brand and I found at a local gas station, but have seen many other places.  Lastly, I added the mailing address with packing tape and secured the cap with tape, too.

The postage to mail was $3.04.  Wondering why I did't use a box?  The USPS allows anything 13 ounces or less to be shipped without packaging. Like a flip flop or a piece of chocolate cake.

I hope the kiddos enjoy their new crayons and coloring pages!  For all the other kiddos out there, I created a free coloring page just for YOU.  Click the image below to download the PDF and print at home.  Thanks for stopping by!
